Pilot Requirements

Initial Qualifications:

All Sky-Vu members must hold a private pilot certificate or better along with a current medical (or provide copies of the appropriate BasicMed documentation).  Members must meet the club’s and the insurer’s minimum experience requirements (see below), and they must receive a check-out and/or endorsement by a club-approved flight instructor for each club-owned aircraft they wish to fly. Some of our aircraft have additional requirements for initial qualifications; see below for those details.

Ongoing Currency Requirements:

To maintain currency in club aircraft, members must annually receive a minimum of one hour of dual instruction with a certified flight instructor (this can be accomplished in any SEL or higher aircraft). Pilots must also satisfy minimum currency requirements for our Cirrus aircraft; see the additional aircraft-specific pilot requirements below:

Note that once a Sky-Vu member has been checked out in a particular aircraft by a club-approved instructor, the member may receive dual instruction from any certified flight instructor to meet the additional requirements specified below.

Common Requirements:

In order for a member to act as PIC in any Sky-Vu aircraft (per FAA rules, club rules and/or insurance requirements), the member must:

  1. Possess a current private, commercial or airline transport pilot certificate,
  2. Hold a current third class (or higher) medical certificate, or provide appropriate BasicMed documentation,
  3. Satisfy the FAA’s flight review requirements per FAR §61.56.
